We are hiring for a Principal Product Manager – Ads Search Targeting  with a proven track record of building AI-driven, scalable advertising products that deliver measurable ROI for advertisers while ensuring the right level of targeting and controls to meet advertiser needs. In this role, you will own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Microsoft Advertising’s Search Targeting products. You will partner closely with Data Science, Engineering, UX, Product Marketing, Legal, and Finance to design solutions that enable advertisers to reach the right audiences in an evolving automation-first landscape.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction. 



Responsibilities
  • Product Leadership: Develop and communicate the strategy and roadmap for search targeting and controls across Microsoft’s ad ecosystem. 
  • Customer Advocacy: Represent the product to customers, deeply understand their needs, and champion those needs internally.
  • Execution & Decision-Making: Navigate ambiguity, make tough prioritization decisions, and drive alignment across engineering, design, and business stakeholders.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Partner effectively with Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive product outcomes.
  • Data & AI Innovation: Collaborate with Data Science and ML teams to leverage insights and models that power precision targeting and safeguard brand trust at scale.
  • Go-to-Market Leadership: Lead go-to-market efforts with marketing and sales, ensuring product launches drive adoption, transparency, and measurable advertiser impact.
  • Industry Leadership: Establish Microsoft as a leader in responsible advertising by shaping internal practices and influencing industry standards. 


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development 
    • OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience developing digital advertising products. 
  • Experience in building large scale solutions. 
  • Experience with A/B testing. 
  • Experience with digital advertising and search targeting. 


Product Management IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year.

  • Experience prompting LLMs, working with generative AI, or an intense desire to learn.

  • Lead usability reviews and collect publisher feedback to ensure seamless integration of AI features and continual improvement of user experience. 
  • Develop and execute go-to-market and customer adoption plans, including presentations at industry events and creation of support resources for publisher success.
  • Monitor performance metrics, analyze usage data, and form hypotheses to guide product enhancements and identify new opportunities for AI-driven monetization.
  • Manage customer communities, build trust with key publishers, and act as an advocate for their needs within Microsoft.
  • Identify features for deprecation, oversee change management, and ensure smooth transitions across the platform ecosystem.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Create and implement comprehensive evaluation frameworks and red-teaming methodologies to assess model safety across diverse scenarios, edge cases, and potential failure modes. 
  • Build automated safety testing systems, generalize safety solutions into repeatable frameworks, and write efficient code for safety model pipelines and intervention systems. 
  • Maintain a user-oriented perspective by understanding safety needs from user perspectives, validating safety approaches through user research, and serving as a trusted advisor on AI safety matters.
  • Track advances in AI safety research, identify relevant state-of-the-art techniques, and adapt safety algorithms to drive innovation in production systems serving millions of users.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python  
    • OR equivalent experience.  
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python  
    • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python  
    • OR equivalent experience.  
  • Experience prompting and working with large language models.   
  • Experience writing production-quality Python code.  
  • Demonstrated interest in Responsible AI.   


Software Engineering IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 – $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 – $258,000 per year.

Software Engineering IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year.
