  • Define audiences, formats, and ecosystems—globally
    • Own MAI’s audience and format narratives, including how different products and surfaces behave across regions and use cases.
    • Clearly explain how MAI audiences show up for publishers, creators, and sales teams, and how formats and inventory should be understood in context.
    • Ensure audience narratives are consistent, grounded in reality, and usable across GTM motions.
  • Partner deeply with Sales on positioning and revenue growth
    • Work with Sales to define new brand and product positioning, particularly for emerging monetization and ad products.
    • Translate product capabilities into sales‑ready narratives that support revenue growth without distorting product truth.
    • Act as a strategic thought partner to Sales leadership on how MAI offerings should be framed in market.
  • Shape MAI Content’s internal and external communications channels
    • Develop narratives for internal and external communication about our product strategy, roadmap and how it connects to the values of journalism and quality content.
    • Ensure consistency between our team and MAI / MSFT core narratives.
  • Be a connective tissue across MAI
    • Operate as a trusted cross‑functional partner spanning Product, Marketing, Monetization, Sales, Policy, Growth, and Leadership.
    • Identify gaps where product intent, market understanding, and execution are misaligned—and step in to close them.
    • Contribute to MAI‑level strategic documents, narratives, and leadership conversations.

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Marketing, Product Strategy, or adjacent roles at scale.
  • Experience working on platforms, ecosystems, or AI‑driven products where behavior and outcomes are not always deterministic.
  • Proven ability to translate complex product or technical concepts into clear, persuasive narratives for senior stakeholders.
  • Solid judgment around trust, quality, and external commitments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Overview

The Microsoft Advertising Mediation Service (MMS) is the real-time auction and mediation platform that sits at the heart of Microsoft’s advertising stack. Built on Go and derived from Prebid Server, MMS processes OpenRTB traffic at global scale across multiple Azure regions, running header-bidding auctions, executing bidder filtration, applying dynamic reserve pricing, and powering experimentation across Microsoft’s owned-and-operated and third-party supply (Outlook, MSN, Xandr, LinkedIn, MSAN, and more).

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to set the technical direction for MMS as it scales to the next order of magnitude of traffic, supply types, and auction complexity. This is a deeply technical IC role: you will own architecture decisions that span the request hot path, the experimentation framework (flights/TSGs), bidder adapter ecosystem, and the Azure-native infrastructure that runs it all. You will partner closely with engineering leads, PMs, data science, and partner teams across Microsoft Advertising to shape the roadmap, raise the engineering bar, and mentor senior engineers across the org.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Overview

Build the privacy products that make AI monetization trusted, durable, and scalable. On Microsoft’s AI Monetization Privacy & Policy Product Team, you’ll ship software that powers consent, transparency, controls, and privacy-preserving personalization across Ads, Bing, Copilot, Xbox, LinkedIn, and ABK—so teams can move fast and meet the expectations of users, customers, and regulators.

You’ll work where product craft meets real systems: identity, consent state, data flows, ranking/personalization, measurement, experimentation, and platform primitives. The output isn’t paperwork—it’s capabilities that teams adopt because they’re the fastest way to ship safely.

As a Principal Product Manager – Privacy & Policy, you will own and drive major parts of our privacy product roadmap for AI monetization: building platform primitives and end-user experiences that enable compliant, high-performing personalization and measurement. This opportunity will allow you to (1) build deep ads/monetization and AI product intuition, (2) grow solid judgment on trust–revenue tradeoffs, and (3) learn how to scale product impact across multiple orgs through platforms and paved roads.

This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities
  • Own privacy product surfaces end-to-end (PRD → execution → launch → iteration): consent + sign-in pathways, transparency experiences, user controls, and per-surface data scopes across Microsoft AI monetization endpoints.
  • Build and scale platform primitives (“paved roads”) for teams: APIs/SDKs for consent state, identity/data-scoping, enforcement hooks, logging/labeling, aggregation/truncation, and privacy-safe defaults that make compliant implementations the easiest path.
  • Partner deeply with engineering to ship runtime guardrails that are practical and measurable (e.g., sensitive-topic constraints, youth safety, AI disclosure/labeling signals, policy enforcement points), tuned for latency, reliability, and abuse resistance.
  • Improve personalization quality under privacy constraints: define product strategies that raise relevance/quality while respecting consent, purpose limits, and regional constraints; collaborate on ranking, retrieval, and measurement design.
  • Instrument what matters for trust + revenue: define metrics, telemetry, and experiments around consent rates, sign-in conversion, eligible addressable users, opt-out/retention, personalization lift, fill/yield impact, and revenue gaps vs. plan, with clear diagnostics and guardrail monitoring.
  • Enable privacy-safe partnerships through software capabilities: support clean-room / API / data-collaboration scenarios by building enforceable product controls (access, usage constraints, verification, auditing) rather than manual process.
  • Drive cross-org adoption and execution: align stakeholders across Ads, Bing, Copilot, Xbox, LinkedIn, and ABK; set crisp decision points; unblock tradeoffs; and deliver measurable outcomes on a multi-surface roadmap.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience shipping and iterating ads/monetization, personalization, measurement, identity, or large-scale consumer platform products.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead highly technical, cross-functional execution with engineering teams (APIs, telemetry, experimentation, reliability/SLOs).
  • Solid track record using data, experiments, and system-level reasoning to drive product decisions and measurable business impact.
  • Experience building privacy- or trust-related product capabilities (consent, transparency, controls, governance-by-platform, safety/guardrails).
  • Familiarity with privacy and AI governance concepts (e.g., GDPR/UK GDPR, CPRA, DPIAs/TIAs) and how they translate into product and engineering requirements.
  • Experience with privacy-preserving approaches such as clean rooms, on-device processing, secure compute, differential privacy, aggregation/cohorting, or enforcement-as-code patterns.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple orgs and drive platform adoption through solid UX/devex and clear value.
