We are inviting you to join the Microsoft Advertising Data Science Team.  Microsoft Advertising platform is the single stop shop for all monetization needs for Publishers and Advertisers globally. Our team manages the marketplace, which includes monitoring business metrics, defining metrics, building analytical & experimentation frameworks, and enabling leadership to make data driven decisions. The team works across Engineering, Product and Business to address complex data science problems across users, advertisers, and publishers.

We are looking for high-energy, creative modeling geeks who are willing to work in a dynamic environment to solve real life day to day problems, leveraging data science techniques. Responsibilities
  • Measurement: Define, invent, and deliver metrics which accurately measure user and business value across various products and marketplace components.
  • Experimental Design: Think critically about sampling and experimental design across User and Demand dimensions.
  • Product Iteration: Interpret the results of analyses, validate approaches, and learn to monitor, analyze, and iterate to continuously improve.
  • Cooperation: Partner effectively with program management, engineers, and other areas of the business across our Consumer online business
  • Influence: engage with stakeholders to produce clear, compelling, and actionable insights and data-science driven workflows that influence product and service improvements.
  • Make independent decisions for the team and handle difficult tradeoffs   
  • Translate strategy into plans that are clear and measurable, with progress shared out monthly to stakeholders.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 10+ years data science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in at least one of programming languages like Python/R/MATLAB/C#/Java/C++.
  • Organizational, analytical, data science skills. 
  • Problem solver: ability to solve problems that the world has not solved before. 
  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration. 
  • Experience with real world system building and data collection, including design, coding and evaluation.  
  • Excellent communication to be able to communicate insights to senior leaders.
  • Experience with driving large collaboration across multiple teams. 
  • Demonstrated experience in applying statistics, experimentation and metrics to generate clear actionable insights.

Data Science IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities
  • Lead content‑quality understanding at scale. Design and deploy models that assess credibility, usefulness, freshness, safety, and diversity across modalities; reduce misinformation/toxicity error rates through prompt‑ and model‑level innovations; build human‑in‑the‑loop and active‑learning pipelines that get better over time.
  • Advance the recommendation & ranking stack. Architect and productionize large‑scale DNN/LLM‑enhanced recommenders (representation learning, sequence modeling, retrieval/ranking, slate optimization), balancing user satisfaction, content quality, and business goals.
  • Own evaluation and experimentation. Define offline metrics (e.g., NDCG, ERR, calibration) and online methodologies (A/B tests, interleaving, counterfactual & bandit approaches) to confidently attribute impact and guard against regressions.
  • Champion safety & trust. Partner with policy and platform teams to encode safety standards and editorial principles into the ML system; create red‑teaming, adversarial, and safeguard layers for generative and curated experiences.
  • Scale E2E ML systems. Collaborate with engineering on data contracts, feature stores, distributed training/inference, and automated rollout/rollback; drive architectural investments that increase agility and reliability of Discover’s AI platform.
  • Mentor & influence. Provide technical leadership across problem framing, methodology selection, code quality, and publishing/knowledge‑sharing; uplevel peers through design reviews, deep‑dives, and principled decision‑
  • Stay close to users. Translate user engagements and behavioral history into model objectives and product bets; ensure our AI solutions elevate relevance, transparency, and engagement for real users.

  • Experience building content integrity/safety systems (e.g., misinformation, harmful content, low‑quality/duplicate detection) and quality‑aware ranking.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑disciplinary efforts (PM, ENG, UXR, editorial/policy) from idea to shipped impact; mentoring scientists and setting technical vision.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft stack (e.g., Azure ML, Kusto, Synapse, Azure AI Foundry).
  • 2+ years of experience working with  recommender systems/ranking or content‑quality/safety models at consumer scale, with clear business impact.
  • 2+ years of experience in Python and at least one major deep learning framework (PyTorch/TensorFlow) with large‑scale data processing and training/inference on distributed systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform deep technical investigations to solve complex performance issues for Microsoft Advertising customers and partners.
  • Act to prevent user, partner and customer quality risk issues through industry awareness, new feature risk analysis, progressive policy influence, pre-launch partner quality reviews, fraud/ DSAT trend identification, platform feature recommendations and business quality advocacy. 
  • Contribute to product improvements by filing bugs and design change requests, and help developers fix and ship them to production.

  • Own high‑impact and open-ended relevance problem areas across Product Ads and Shopping including providing strategic direction to solve problems and applying deep subject matter knowledge to support business impact.

  • Design and develop next-generation hardware health monitoring and diagnostic frameworks for large GPU clusters (NVL16/NVL72/GB200+ scale).
  • Build predictive analytics pipelines leveraging telemetry, power, and thermal data to anticipate hardware degradation and systemic issues.
  • Collaborate with silicon, firmware, and datacenter engineers to identify root causes and remediate large-scale hardware anomalies.

Our newly formed parent organization, Microsoft AI (MAI), is dedicated to advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. The team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and AI research.

Starting January 26, 2026, MAI employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S., country-specific) of that location. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.



Responsibilities
  • Work alongside researchers and engineers to implement frontier AI research ideas.
  • Introduce new systems, tools, and techniques to improve model inference performance.
  • Build tools to help debug performance bottlenecks, numeric instabilities, and distributed systems issues.
  • Build tools and establish processes to enhance the team’s collective productivity.
  • Find ways to overcome roadblocks and deliver your work to users quickly and iteratively.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
      • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with generative AI.
  • Experience with distributed computing.
  • Python and Python ecosystem (eg. uv, pybind/nanobind, FastAPI) expertise.
  • Experience with large scale production inference.
  • Experience with GPU kernel programming.
  • Experience benchmarking, profiling, and optimizing PyTorch generative AI models.
  • Experience with open source inference frameworks like vLLM and SGLang.
  • Working experience and conversant with the material in the JAX scaling book. 


Software Engineering IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year.

Software Engineering IC6 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 – $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 – $331,200 per year.
