The role of Senior Manufacturing Engineer is part of the Microsoft Devices Operations, in the Windows & Devices organization.
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer role leads the design and implementation of advanced production lines and automation systems to enhance manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for strategic development and evaluation of manufacturing processes, driving cost and cycle time reductions, ensuring supplier performance and compliance, and embedding AI-driven initiatives for operational efficiency. The role partners broadly with engineering, sourcing, and supplier teams to validate product designs for manufacturability and sustainability, lead root cause analyses, and implement continuous improvements across global manufacturing sites. It requires strong leadership in lean manufacturing, risk management, and strategic decision-making to support new product launches and the continuous evolution of manufacturing capabilities.

Responsibilities
- You will engage in engineering, design, and production validation across a variety of products to drive product engineering, repair, and design, contribute to engineering validation, lead the simulation of high-volume manufacturing processes, and ensure that the product can be sustainably mass-produced.
- You will implement automation, AI-driven analytics, and SPC systems to enhance quality and efficiency. Lead defect detection and root cause analysis and establish robust qualification processes.
- You will drive efforts to ensure that work is done in parallel with suppliers by helping to review, approve, and observe suppliers at each step of the process as needed.
- You will leverage expertise while leading your team in identifying significant project risks at the outset of a project and analyze and lead the team in identifying mitigation strategies.
- You will apply your expertise through predictive modeling techniques and lead the quality roadmap and operation to reach goals. You’ll lead the detection framework and oversee the root cause analysis and preventative / corrective actions to ensure quality control.
- You have the ability to work independently, directing and setting priorities for manufacturing partners to solve complex design, manufacturing and material challenges, and relentlessly drive cost reduction and yield improvement.
- You will drive clear and accurate communications and recommendations to peers and senior management by distilling complex technical challenges, outlining options, and providing supporting data.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in a manufacturing environment /repair.
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair.
- OR equivalent experience.
- This role will work closely with manufacturing partners and must be on-site in Bac Ninh or Haiphong City, 5 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair.
- OR Master’s Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair.
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Material, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Patent or track record of engineering excellence.
- Manufacturing operations experience.
- Experience with high accuracy automation system development and qualification.
- Experience with design and implementation of AI/ML predictive models and remote monitoring for operational efficiency and risk reduction.
- Solid technical aptitude and experience with enclosure and mechanical assembly related manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated ability in product and statistical process control, MSA/GRR, part characterization, structured problem solving, root cause and defect/failure analysis, FMEA, DOE, FEA, reliability testing, core and advanced metrology, statistical data analysis.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis and Six Sigma principles, including usage of tools such as JMP or Minitab.
- Proficiency with 3D design tools and other CAD suites. Knowledge in Pro-E/Creo and SolidWorks is a plus.
- Experience leveraging manufacturing data and field return data to identify design and assembly issues and subsequently drive continuous quality improvements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Mandarin and Vietnamese will be a plus.

- You will support development and standardization of manufacturing processes, tools, and best practices across suppliers and factory sites, driving yield improvement and production efficiency.
